Back to Saving in No Time:) Friday, September 30th

Chew Away Your Fat :) Tuesday, September 27th
I have read many magazine articles which say, people who chew gum, burn more calories. So if you're trying to lose a few pounds, (and who isn't) you are in luck:) Go to Target.com, then visit their coupon site---you can print off a coupon $1 off a 3 pack of Orbit gum. At Target this makes the 3 pack only 67cts.
This coupon is a manufacturer coupon, so you can use it anywhere. Often the coupons on the Target site are manufacturer coupons. Unless a coupon says "Target Only", or is specifically for a Target store brand, it can be used anywhere. Often the place you get the coupon from, or the site you print the coupon from, may not be the best place to use it.
In many cases, I will pick up a coupon from a pad on a store aisle. I may not need the product right then, or I may want to wait until I find it on sale somewhere. When the item goes on sale, it may not be at the store that I got the coupon from----but if it is a manufacturer coupon it is accepted any place that carries the item, I can use it.
Got to go----if I chew all night, I probably won't burn off the calories from all the candy corn that I ate today. Candy corn mixed with peanuts is my "fall" guilty pleasure.

Coupon Clipping Services: Monday, September 26, 2011
My friend Holly emailed me yesterday about a site that she loves couponsthingsbydede.com
This is a coupon clipping service. The extreme couponers that you see on television almost always subscribe to a coupon clipping service.
It is against the law to sell coupons, but what the services charge you for is "handling". Holly says what she loves about this is that you can get only the coupons you are interested in, thus not having to deal with coupons that you don't want, as you do when you purchase the Sunday papers.
I have not used a service before, but I do plan to at some point.
I want to thank Holly for sending me this tip. Please email me any tips you have so that I can share with everyone. 100 heads are better than 1 :)

Crock Pot Season: Friday, September 23 ,2011
A friend of mine is in love with her crock pot. My main complaint with crock pots, like a lot of our neat kitchen gadgets, is they are hard to clean. That problem has been solved by the Reynolds company. Type reynoldskitchens.com in your search bar, and then choose promotions from the access screen. They have several coupons for several products. The crock pot liners have a $1 coupon, and when purchased at Wal-Mart, are only 92 cents.
I have been asked what I suggest to people who don't have printers, since there are so many great printable coupons on the internet now. I go to the library to print mine, as I don't have a printer either. The copies are a dime, but if I print off a coupon like the one above---I'm still ahead 90cts :)
Hope the weather stays great for all the fall festivals. My friend Laura is going to the Walnut Festival, which I think is in Walnut Grove. She says she gets lots of neat, reasonably priced Christmas gifts there. I truly believe the earlier you start Christmas shopping, the more likely you are to stay within your budget.

The weather is getting very nice, maybe it's time to get Fido a new leash :)
Someone asked me the other day if I had grandchildren. I said I don't even have a grand dog. My daughter does share custody of a very cute Japanese Chin named "Lola".
The other day her roommate came home in the middle of the day and picked up Lola. My daughter said it was a good thing her roommate had called to tell her that she was picking Lola up, because if she had came home, and Lola had been gone, she would have packed her "stuff" and left . There was no way she was facing her roommate without Lola :)

My daughter said it was a good thing her roommate had called to tell her that she was picking Lola up, because if she had came home, and Lola had been gone, she would have packed her "stuff" and left . Score for Sister In Law: Monday, September 19th
The best department store for clearance is without a doubt JCPenneys. I found a pair of Worthington pants in my sister-in-law's size for $2.97. Penneys often has items on their clearance racks for $2.97-$5.97. The key is to search.
As the fall weather makes our next few weekends very nice, I am expecting to see some garage sales popping up.

Doesn't the damp cold weather make you hungry for hot soups and chili :)

There are many places to get coupons---newspapers, internet, in the stores that you shop. Another great source for coupons, is the magazine "All You". Right now you can go to coupons.com, and print off a $1 coupon for "All You", as well as some other great magazines.
One of my children does not speak English. As I was introducing her, I said that she did not speak any English. One of her 5 yr. old playmates, turns around and says, "She speaks peanut butter and jelly :)"
I thought to myself,

My favorite money saving stories are the ones where the person saving the money, also gets to help out someone less fortunate. My friend Sheryl is a bargain Queen :) I told you about her great thrift store shopping trip a few weeks ago. I saw her yesterday, and she was telling me about a program that is offered at her favorite thrift store located at Campbell and Division. That store has what is called "spot the pocket". If you find an item with a pocket tag on it, the item is FREE. On her last trip, she spotted the pocket on a pair of little girls' jeans. Sheryl has a very handsome grown son, and a lovely daughter and grandson, but no little girls. She picked up the jeans and plans to donate them to the PTA clothing bank.

Staff can pick out magazines that they would like to read, the bring them back, and the whole cycle starts again. Ask for a 10ct donation for every magazine taken. Use the $ for charity, a prize (everyone who donates a magazine gets a chance to win the dimes at the end of the month), or some type of treat for the office. You could have cupcake day. I love cupcake day :)

I have always been a proponent of saving money, not so I could have a year's supply of deodorant, not so I could have a million dollars in savings; but so that I could save on items that weren't all that important to me---to spend that money on things that were---like a vacation to the Bahamas, or anywhere that has a palm tree :)
To this end, I have urged you to buy as many papers as your coupon usage would pay for. This week I looked at the Star, and figured out which coupons I was sure that I would use. Now, keep in mind, I am single, don't cook much, but I do help my children on occasion with grocery items and other sundries.
These are the coupons from the Star that I will definitely use:
The Airwick coupon for $4---this week with the Register Reward---it's only 99cts.
$1 off 2-8oz. bags of Reese's Pieces--what can I say, I'm weak:)
50cts off Johnson's Baby Powder
$1 off 3 Ziploc Products
$1 off 2 pks. of UP2U gum
$4 off Red Lobster Entrees (did I mention it's Endless Shrimp)
$1 off 4 Totino's pizzas (these are for my college age son)
$1 off 9oz. bag of Pretzel M&M's (there's that weakness again :)
$3 off Body Source Whey Protein (also for my son)
$1 off Truvia Natural Sweetener (this is to make up for the M&M's and Reese's Pieces :)
From the Star alone---I will save over $17. Most of these items I buy on a regular basis, and are non-perishable---so I could easily justify buying two or more Star copies at $2 a piece. In reality, I'm making $15 on each paper.
Sit down, look at the list of coupons and figure out how many papers you could justify purchasing. It's a fantastic circle---you buy extra papers---newspaper hires more workers due to increased sales-those workers spend their money in the local economy.

Tonight my friend Barb and I went to Branson Landing and enjoyed one of the free outdoor concerts that they have several times throughout the year. Jake Simpson, 2 time winner of Star Search, played with his band "The Four Jacks". We had been to one of their concerts at the Landing last year, and they were great. So we really looked forward to getting to see them again, and we weren't disappointed. You go down a couple of hours early, stake out your spot with your lawn chair----eat, shop---and then go and enjoy the concert. Check their web site for a list of more outdoor concerts and activities.

Be sure and check out Target.com. Their new coupons came out today. They have one coupon for "Whisker Lickin Cat Treats"---which should make the treats free.
They also have one that I plan to use on "Skinny Cow Candies." I have such a hard time eating anything with the word "cow" in it, even if it is prefaced by skinny :) Years ago, there was a restaurant in Springfield called the "Brangus Feed Lot"---now I'm not proud, but even I couldn't make myself go there.
Years and years, ago there was a restaurant with a rotating buffet---then you just had a bunch of "fat" people chasing their food. (And I was one :)

Slow Savings: Thursday, Sept. 1st
One of the best ways to save money is to eat at home. Head over to Mr. Food, where you can download 28 slow cooker recipes. A crock pot is the one thing that never goes out of style, isn't it. :)
On a humorous note---my administrator was reciting a list of things that might be inappropriate to put on your social networking page, and still maintain your professionalism. On that list was "it might be inappropriate to post a picture of yourself in a bathing suit."
I pondered this, and realized that I needed to send the following note to my colleagues---
if at any time, they saw a picture of me on the internet, in a bathing suit---
I have been KIDNAPPED---AND TO CALL THE AUTHORITIES IMMEDIATELY :)
