HyVee/Disney World: October 31st, 2011

Okay-I was in HyVee twice this weekend.  The crowd was unbelievable.  The fruit looked wonderful, but sadly I went straight to the bakery aisle.  I can vouch that the cookies and cakes were great!

The rest of our grocery stores run on a Wed. - Tues. cycle.  I'm not for sure if this is how HyVee runs their sale circulars or not, but I will find out and let you know.

Even if you don't live close, you do have to go at least once---it was like Disney World.  You didn't know where to go first.

But all good shoppers know, looks are only skin deep---the real test is in the pocket book.

Once again, I invite everyone of you to email me (booklady500@aol.com) with any of your money saving tips.  Helping each other improves not only our own pocketbooks, but also our economy.

Thanks to everyone for helping me achieve my 3000 viewing mark.

Welch's Coupons: Saturday, October 29th

Go to tastetheharvest.welchs.com-

under promotions, click on "taste the harvest"---watch a short video and you can print off coupons for different Welchs' products.

I used to love grape jelly and grape juice.  I could drink a gallon.  When I was pregnant with my daughter 26 years ago, I became deathly ill after drinking grape juice, and have not had a glass since.  Fortunately, I haven't held it against her, and I still love grape jelly.

Check back tomorrow for coupon listings.

The best way to use my site, along with the majors: Thursday, October 27th, 2011

Every Sunday I print the coupons that are in the Springfield News Leader and the Kansas City Star.
The reason I started doing this was because when I went to the national coupon sites, and it listed the coupons that could be matched with sale items, I was always so disappointed when our inserts hadn't had those coupons that particular week.

Grocery ads come out on Wed.   Visit couponmom.com, to find the matchups for Dillons and HyVee.  The format is pretty easy to understand.  Pull up my site in another window, scroll to the date that the coupon was supposed to be in the paper, and you can find out quickly whether to start searching through one of your inserts to clip.

This is the way that I do it.  I jot down the items which I want to purchase that week from the couponmom.com site.  I also list the date of the paper the coupon was supposed to be in, and what insert was supposed to have it.  I work on only one date at a time----for example, I look up all the items that were supposed to be in the paper on 9/11----then I will go to the next date 9/18, etc.  That keeps you from wasting time scrolling up and down through posts.  Reading the post to see if the coupon was contained in our local insert is a lot easier then rifling through endless inserts looking for coupons that might not even be there in the first place.

Try this.  I promise it makes the coupon thing a lot easier.

Yes to Pain/No to Savings:) Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011

I want to apologize for no post yesterday, and for just a short one today. As many of you know, I've had some minor surgery in the last couple of weeks, and the discomfort level has been an up and down thing.  Later if I can get to a lower pain level, I will match up coupons for HyVee and Dillons this week.

As I've posted many times you can't take it with you, so save on the things that don't matter, and spend on experiences that give you joy.

One of the great joys of my life (which is why I weigh 210 lbs) is dining with friends.  A night or two ago I met my friends Jane and Brenda at a local place down town called "The Grad School".  It is located next door to Hoover Music.  Fun atmosphere, good prices, nice service.  I only had fries, because I wasn't all that hungry, but they were delicious.  My friends had a portabello mushroom burger and a turkey burger, and they were pleased also.

So remember, don't save/rebate/etc. so that you can eat canned vegetables for the next 10 years, if you lose your job, or if the economy collapses, or if aliens invade.  Be reasonable---save on the items that are easy to save on for you (everyone has those)--spend to make your life and the lives of others more enjoyable.

Hy Vee/ WM Best of both Worlds; Monday, Oct. 24, 2011

A friend of mine today was talking about her shopping trip to HyVee, and all the really cool merchandise they had.  They said that for their shopping the HyVee sale prices were great, but the staples that purchased were still cheaper at Wal-Mart.
This is where the greatness of the price match comes in.  Take your ads from other stores to Wal-Mart, and they will price match.  Then you can still pick up your regular staples at the great Wal-Mart low prices.  It's really easy, the clerks are used to doing it, so it's not some long drawn out deal, like in the past.

Hope you had a Money Saving Monday!

I'm nuts about donuts! Saturday, October 22

Apologies for no post yesterday.  Previous leg surgery has bothered me a little more than I expected, and I was asleep by 7.  Now you know why this blog isn't about the night life of Springfield :)

I will do better I promise.

Today's deal is at Krispy Kreme.  I bought a book for 20 free glazed donuts for $5.  It's their Halloween special.  You do not have to make a purchase to redeem a coupon (but I would like to say that Krispy Kreme
has the best large cokes in town because they are in a styrofoam cup), and the coupons never expire.

Great gift idea, if you have anyone that you would like to say a small thank you too.

Check back tomorrow for coupon listings!

Thriftiness Abounds at Walgreens: October 19, 2011

Cottonelle 12 pack (purple) $5 each/  buy 2 get $3 Register Reward---which brings each package to $3.50.
Use the 75cts off 2 pkgs from the Smart Source Insert in the Star on 9/11--which brings each package down to around $3.15.  There is also a coupon for a $1 in the Walgreens coupon book (which ends on Oct. 22nd)--this brings down the pkgs to $2.15 each.  Can't get a better deal then that.

Walgreens Maxi Pads Ultrathins on sale for $2---receive a $2 Register Reward.

Bayer Aspirin 32 ct. or 36 ct. chewable---use in ad coupon---coupon from Red Plum Insert on 9-11 in the News Leader and the aspirin is FREE.

We all save money for different reasons, for me it was to purchase some retirement years, to give me more options at the end of my career.  We all save in different ways.  I live in a very, very small apt.  My utilities this month were $28.  For me the inconvenience of small is worth the delayed gratification of retirement options.

I would love it if you would share your best money saving tip at booklady500@aol.com---and what is the reason you are saving.  Your ideas might inspire others.

I strongly urge against saving money, simply for the sake of saving money.  As Oprah says, "One thing I know for sure--you can't take it with you."

Hang tough!  Make those sacrifices and those delayed gratification rewards will eventually come your way.

Odd Places for Information :) Saturday, October 15th, 2011

You can find information on how to save money in the oddest places.  I hate to admit the source of my money information saving tips today, but I'm going to "bite the bullet" and tell you anyway.  Today's tips come from the AARP bulletin.  Yes, I am a card carrying member of the AARP :)  I know my friends are shocked, due to the fact that I don't look a day over 29 :) , but it's true.

Tip #1 PUT DOWN THE COOKIE :)  (This was the tip I hated the most :)  AARP contends that healthcare costs are at the heart of our nation's fiscal problems, so keeping yourself healthy is not only beneficial to you, but to the entire nation.

Tip #2 PAY YOUR DEBTS--For me, this wasn't too hard to swallow.  I do that anyway.  I not only pay my own debts, but some of the debts of other people too.  (You know who you are :)---but to give the rest of the world a hint, I gave birth to them :)

Tip #3 WALK, BIKE, SWIM--This goes back to keeping ourselves healthy, but also on reducing costs for fuel, and the maintenance of our environment.

Tip #4 PLAN TO WORK LONGER--How I feel about this tip, probably depends on the day you ask me.  If you ask me after a professional development program, where I am assured, that the new program introduced, will not add to my work load, but will be one that I can simply incorporate into what I am already doing----I will tell you that not only am I not sure that I can work an extra year or two, I'm not for sure if I can work an extra minute or two :)
If you ask me on a day where one of my students has said, "You know, Miss Taylor, when you wear your hair down, you look like a movie star."  (This is a true story by the way.  God would strike me dead immediately if I told a "whopper" this big :)  Well on one of those days, I would tell you that I could probably work another 10 to 20 years longer.

I, personally, found tip #5, so distasteful at the present time, that I couldn't even bear to list it.  If you are interested in reading it, pick up the Oct. 11th issue of the AARP bulletin.

Check back tomorrow for the list of coupons in the NewsLeader and the Star.

Hope you get a whole weekend full of savings!

As Good As it Gets at JCP: Thursday, Oct.13th, 2011

Friday and Saturday, JCPenneys is having their $10 off of a $25 purchase.  The $25 purchase can be made up of regular, sale, or clearance priced items.  The trick is to get as close to the $25 total as you can.

Christmas is approaching rapidly, and this is a great time to pick up those stocking stuffers.  I noticed shirts and sunglasses on the second floor mens dept. for only $2.97.  Cute bracelets and earrings in the fashion jewelry dept. for $2.97, and adorable clearance panties in the lingerie dept.  The holiday season is so much more pleasant if you don't leave all of these last minute items until the last minute. (Get the pun :)  I know, I should go on the road.

Penneys is getting fairly strict about your having the coupon, but most of the time there are coupons in the store if you forget.

It was a great $2.97 Thursday :)

Discouraged and Deals: Tuesday, Oct. 11th, 2011

Today I found a $2 coupon that I had meant to use, and let it expire instead.  This happens, it happens to experienced and inexperienced couponers.  The main thing is don't think, "Oh I can't ever remember these darn things.  I am so aggravated, I'm just going to quit."  Believe me. by using coupons, I have saved that $2, a hundred times over.  So while, I think "Dang"---I know just to keep a better eye on things next time.

If you go to coupons.com/  put in the zip code 90210, you can print off a lot of great coupons this week.  If you print off the "Gold Peak Tea" coupon for $1, you can get it at Target for 2cts., since the regular price is only $1.02.

$1.40 off Nestle Halloween Candy.

40cts off 1 box of Fiber One Bars--double this at the grocery store and you are getting a great deal.

Lots of others that you might be interested in, so be sure and check it out.

Coupon Listings and Disappearing Post: Sunday, October 9th, 2011

Okay, I wrote a post yesterday about the wonderful deals my friend Tarah got at the Deals store, but today I see it didn't publish.  Sorry--I'll let you in on that news another day.

Today is our favorite day of the week "New Coupon Day".  I started the day with a little bit of a downer.  Walgreens has raised their paper price back to $1.75 for the News Leader.  I always went to Walgreens to get the Sunday paper for two reasons, 1) it was 50cts cheaper than anywhere else, and 2) they also carried the Kansas City Star (not all Walgreens carry the Star, but the one at Campbell and Battlefield does).  Now I may start getting my papers at the nearest convenience store.  We'll see :)

Wild Clearance Deats at Walgreens: Friday, October 7th

Didn't intend to stop at Walgreens today, but I needed to switch some stuff with my brother, and we decided to meet at the National & St. Louis location.

Since I was already there, I decided I would stop in to see if I could score some more Cepacol lozenges.  They are absolutely my favorite for a sore throat, so getting them free is a big deal to me.  They were recommended to my by a physician a few years ago, and I haven't bought any other kind of drops for a sore throat since then.

While I was in there, I decided I would just check out their clearance isle and I hit the "Bonanza" of bargains.  Toy Golf Clubs for Toddlers,1.50, a really cute set (for a child just a step above a toddler) with a pink golf bag-only $2.50, Disney books for 50cts. Disney Paddle Ball Games for $1.50, a darling little mini Disney Princess purse for only 42cts.  Other stuff,  too numerous to list.

My point is always check the clearance isles of Walgreens.  If you know of another store that has great clearance isles, please email me at booklady500@aol.com  Helping everyone find great deals helps our economy, and if a person's finances are stable--they are happier.  Happier people make harder workers, which helps to improve our economy.  It's a great cycle, and your suggestions can help to keep it going.

It's supposed to be a beautiful day.  Get out there and find fantastic buys at garage sales.  That's always a fun way to spend a beautiful Saturday.

Terrific Thursday at Walgreen's: October 6, 2011

Walgreens is having some great deals this week!

Cepacol Lozenges on sale for $2.99, and you receive $3 in Register Rewards after purchase.  These are hands down the best sore throat reliever on the market.  I never buy anything else.

Prevacid 28ct.-use $2 coupon from 9/18 Smart Source, use $2 coupon that is in their monthly coupon book, receive a $2 Register Reward, and there is a rebate form in the coupon book.  Can't beat FREE :)

Coldcom-60ct.  on sale for $6.99, receive a $6.99 Register Reward after purchase.  Cold and flu season is rapidly approaching.

Cover Girl Make Up Puffs, use $8 off 2 Covergirl products.  This is in the Procter and Gamble Insert in both papers.

Ricola drops are on sale for $1.29, use the Buy1/Get 1 from the Smart Source insert in the Star.  There is also a store coupon in their October coupon book.  This makes each pkg. around 15cts.

Well I feel like I've set you up pretty well for any upcoming illness---medicines for cough and sore throat, Prevacid for when those medicines upset your stomach, and make up puffs to help cover those dark circles, because you aren't getting any sleep :)

Hope you get all these things cheaply, and don't have to use them :)

Trash No More: Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

We all get junk mail, advertisements for places we shop, and places we don't.  I urge you to take a pretty good look through that mail.  Today, I was about to throw away an advertisement flyer, when I realized that it had a coupon for $10 off a $20 purchase.  The coupon was for Minsky's Pizza.  I haven't eaten there before, but I have wanted to, and now is the perfect time.

Also if you are a coffee drinker, here's a great deal on Taster's Choice.  Go to target.com and print of their coupon for 50cts off one 6 packet pkg.  Then go to tasterschoice.com and print off their manufacturer coupon for 65cts off one.  Since this is a store coupon and a manufacturer coupon, you can use both at once.  This should make the Taster's Choice 6 packet pkg. around 25cts.

It's nice when you can get your morning jump start really cheap.

Thanks for reading on this "Tightwad Tuesday" :)  I consider "tightwad" a compliment :)

Chew Away the Monday Blues: Monday, October 3rd

Go to Target.com, and print off their coupon for Extra Dessert Delight Gum, combine that store coupon with the manufacturer coupon that was in the Sunday Star on 9/25.  When you combine the store coupon with the manufacturer coupon, the gum is FREE.  This is great gum by the way.  My personal favorite is strawberry cheesecake.

My friend Cathy had on the prettiest bracelet today.  She said she picked it up at a garage sale.  I still have a few pieces of furniture that I bought with my mother (who died when I was 22), at least 30 years ago.  As most of you know, you can get terrific stuff at garage sales.  If you know of any great sales coming up, let me know so that I can share the info. with everyone.

Hope you had many saving opportunities on this Marvelous Monday!

Preview Next Week's Deals: Saturday, October 1st

There are many sites that list preview deals for the upcoming week.

I like couponmom.com the best, but krazycouponlady.com is also good.  The thing I always found frustrating was to get my hopes up to score a great deal, but then our papers wouldn't have the coupon needed.  That's the main reason I list the coupons in both the K.C. Star and the Springfield News Leader.

So check out the preview deals, and then check back here tomorrow for coupon listings, and you will know which bargains you can take advantage of.

Be sure and email me at booklady500@aol.com---with your great money saving ideas.  It takes a village :)

Just a personal note here---I had minor leg surgery yesterday, and am laid up for a couple of days with an ace bandaged wrapped so tight around my calf, that it is making it hard to breathe :)  My attention span isn't long enough for TV, so I read----but for some reason, I like to have the TV on, with no sound.  Right now I have on the movie "Starsky and Hutch", starring Ben Stiller and the guy who was in the "Marley" movie (whose name escapes me right now).  Anyway---once in a while I look up, between chapters, just to see what's happening on the screen.
This movie is so stupid, that I had to turn the channel.  Now when a movie is so stupid, that you can't stand to have it on, even when the sound is muted---that's pretty sad :)

Check back tomorrow for coupon listings.
